More Details...
I was born and raised in Montana and have called Butte my home for 24 years. My husband, Chris, and I have been married for 34 years and together, we have raised our four Butte boys, all of which have continued to college, military, and professional careers.
Chris and I grew up in the Sun River Valley. We met each other at the all-valley 8th grade dance, started dating as juniors in high school, and were married 3 years later after I received my Medical Assistant degree. We lived and worked in San Diego while Chris earned his Computer Science and Engineering degree at UCSD. Wanting to get a bit more “small town”, we moved to the Lake Tahoe area in 1995 where our first two sons, Devin and Scott, were born. However, Montana was calling us back home.
Chris had already been involved in creating two tech startups and was looking to start a new company, but this time in Montana. After he had met with many economic development organizations across the state, he decided that Butte was great environment to not only plant a business, but raise a family as well. In 2000, we moved to Butte, got settled in, setup SchoolWorks (E2S), created jobs, helped build the Butte economy, and still work to contribute to our city to this day.
Moving to Butte was an interesting transition for me as my experience with Butte was mostly tied to trading blows with the Lady Bulldog Basketball team when I was playing basketball for CMR back in the 80s. However, Butte and the people of Butte quickly captured my heart. Butte is a gem with amazing amounts of beauty, friendship, community spirit, endurance, and opportunity.
Ever since having children, Chris’ and my first and foremost job has been to raise our sons to be amazing people that improve the lives of those around them and make the world a better place. Most of my time during my early years in Butte was being a Stay-At-Home Mom. However, I have also done much more beyond that in Butte over the past 24 years. A few highlights are:
- YMCA: In the early years of living in Butte I worked for the childcare program. It was a job I enjoyed while I was able attend to my children at the same time.
- Church Education Director: Held this position in the Presbyterian Church for 5 years. I managed curriculum, schedules, and provided much of the teaching for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. This was an enjoyable job that allowed me to utilize my leadership qualities while attending to my children at the same time.
- Muddy Creek Brewery: We were one of the three families that founded Muddy Creek Brewery. I was the Taproom Manager for one of Montana’s most-awarded and favorite breweries. As my kids grew older and more independent, I managed the taproom staff, procedures, schedules, inventory, customer service, legal compliance, and spent much enjoyable time beer-tending. It was a tragedy when it burned down in 2020. I do miss Muddy Creek and the great times with our customers.
- Montana Secretary of State: For the better part of a year between 2019 and 2020, I worked for the SOS as a Quality Assurance Tester for Montana’s new Elections/Voter management system. In 2020, I ran mock-elections alongside the real elections to evaluate the new system’s accuracy and performance prior to the system’s deployment for the 2022 elections.
- BSB Clerk & Recorder – Election Worker (most all positions): 12 years and 16 elections of experience since 2012 doing most every aspect of BSB elections.
- BSB Clerk & Recorder – Clerk: Since 2020, I have been working for the C&R office as a Clerk managing various C&R records, modernizing records storage, remediating records, and preserving Butte’s heritage.
- Montana Secretary of State: Election-Admin Certified!
My husband and children also have many contributions towards our community and country in regards to business development, sports, education, military and faith. You can learn more about each of them through links at the end of this post.
Through my life and experiences in Butte, I have come to deeply love and respect our community. I have also come to understand the leadership, knowledge and skills that it takes to effectively and efficiently manage the BSB Clerk & Recorder’s office. It is critical that we have a Clerk & Recorder that knows the job so our elections and records are handled with competence and proper legal compliance. I am the only C&R candidate that has these qualifications. This is my expertise. And this is how I can serve you, the citizens of Butte Silver Bow. I appreciate your support. Vote Cindy Sherman for BSB Clerk & Recorder.
